Om mig – About me

Hello!

I hope you can get some inspiration and ideas from what is presented here. This is a selection of my accomplishments over the years and which also show my skills. You will also notice that my palette of techniques and formats is pretty unlimited.

I tend to say that I have done a lot but the most is still ahead of me. My vision of monumental art for the development of architecture and urban spaces of our time is very much alive. Enhanced experiences in form and color that create better people, interesting spaces and identity. Many understand the great importance of this and will therefore travel happily to these places to see and experience them in the context of other cultures, but once home forget that those experiences can be achieved here and now.

I work with the development and refinement of different environments to create attraction and rich experiences through monumental sculptural and painterly forms. The aim is to create a medium for the unique identity of a place, a room or a building. It can also be an ingredient in the exposure of a product or a business, reflecting different activities and operations.

What I call the easel, my paintings and sculptures, have been shown in different ways and in different contexts, often with an exclusively developed thematic content which also provides form.

Certainly it is not difficult to create something interesting and have fun. One condition is that you work together with others. I very much hope you enjoy my work and look forward to possible joint projects. As inspiration I would like to quote Laddat Ljus (Charged Light), a project of which I’m a part:

”A selection of our work ended up on the entire first page of the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet: a beach at Sergel Square, Stockholm City’s largest billboard, a violet ski slope, warmed up the god Thor’s cold backside, squeezed a whole company into a birdhouse ……”

What can I do for you?

PS. I am a painter and sculptor with the highest qualifications in those disciplines and have corresponding technical, marketing and project management skills. I have also been part of an architect’s office for almost ten years. I am represented in private, corporate and public collections. Contact me for a full CV.

Words to pictures and sculpture, text Johan J. Åström

Draw a circle and surround it with dashes, everyone in the world sees a sun. We know the sun does not actually look like this but we accept the image as a symbol of the sun.

We are surrounded by signs and symbols that communicate warnings, decrees, advertising and so on. We are used to seeing them and register their different meanings almost unconsciously. World cultures throughout (art)history have had symbols and signs that signal messages. An early example is the imagery of ancient Egypt. Today we see what the pictures represent, but no longer understand the meaning if we do not understand the hieroglyphics that are interspersed between images.

Anders Örnberg has for a long time worked with a greatly reduced design language. He builds up pictures and sculptures based on honed down building blocks. The paintings’ mode of expression is carried through in sculptures that are built up in the same way, almost as an architecture based on bricks.

These greatly reduced symbolic forms lend themselves well to scaling up to cover an entire wall or a ceiling, which has been done. The same motifs have also been applied in smaller format directly to the female body with skin as canvas.

In the choice of black as the color of the paintings there is both an originality and something of a modern anonymity. Thus it is not a specific woman or man painted, rather it is man and woman.

In the smaller sculptures we find the same basic shapes rendered in three-dimensions but now covered by a thin translucent fabric that yields another dimension, causing a softer play of light. It creates a tension like the thin stocking covering a woman’s leg. What is covered up can also be highlighted.

Anders himself has said, ”My minimalist character comes from my interest in the most basic part of computer graphics; the pixel, a square. It’s something I have worked with for over 30 years. The kinship with much older forms of human expression are often striking despite the modern computer only having existed for 50 years. ”
